Visualization is a basic mental skill that can help your physical performance. You mentally recreate objects, people, and situations while not being involved in those environments.
The mind can't distinguish between perception and real activity! This means you can practice physical skills even when you can't perform them. You can prepare for an event or problem before you face it.
Use short imagery sessions - About 5 minutes at a time will be quite effective.
Always imagine positively - See Part 1 of this tip for more information.
Feel the visualization - Try to think about how the situation sounds, feels...and even smells. Including all five senses will make the imagery feel more real to your brain, making the visualization even more effective!
Use slow motion imagery - this will let you analyze the skills involved in the imaginary situation!
Practice, practice, practice - Go over an imagined situation many times over. This will let you consider as many aspects of the situation as possible.
Relax in a quiet, secluded area - Find a place where other people won't interrupt you...and where you won't interrupt other people!
Don't feel silly about using imagery - Visualization is just another way to help you reach your dreams and goals. Your imagination is a powerful tool, and you should not be afraid to use it to succeed!
