Part 2: Setting Goals

If you know where you are going, it will be much easier to get there! No doubt you have set some goals for this year and for next year. Use these steps to reevaluate your goals and maybe set some new ones...

1. Your goals should be challenging. This will make you work harder, which will help you succeed in many other ways. If you aim at nothing, you will hit nothing.

2. Make your goals realistic. If your goals are unattainable, you will certainly fail. This will damage your confidence and cause you to question other goals and yourself.

3. Be specific in your goals. Make your goals something you can measure. That way, you'll know when your goals are accomplished and when it's time to set new goals.
For example: Don't say you want to get in shape. Say you want to be able to lift a certain weight or run a certain distance 30 seconds faster.

4. Write down your goals. It will reinforce what you are trying to accomplish. It's also a valuable tool to look back and measure your success as you strive toward your dreams. Try keeping a daily journal!

5. Own your goals. They need to come from your heart and be fueled by your desire. If you don't truly believe in your goals or let others set them for you, you will lose focus and direction and fail.

6. Envision your goals. Think of it as a mental dress rehearsal for success. Visualizing somehting over and over will prepare and enable you to accomplish the task when the time arrives.

7. Believe in your goals. The basic premise behind Part 1. If you believe you will succeed, you'll find a way to do it! And don't forget, only you need to believe in your goals. Even if everyone else doubts what you can achieve, your own belief will drive you, and you'll prove everyone else wrong!

8. Don't be afraid to reevaluate. Sometimes, you need to change your methods to accomplish your goals. Maybe it will take longer to accomplish them, or maybe you'll have to change your routine. Just remember, reevaluating still means you don't give up!

9. Accomplish your goals. Nothing breeds success like success. If you conquer your goals, you'll feel confident enough to set and reach new goals!
